For this project we have been asked to create a piece of work collaboratively to go into a one day show. As a group we have discussed this and think it best to create a performance piece on the day/ night of the show. Partly because three of us are part time so time is an issue and also because some of our group is interested in performance and we think that a real time artwork would work very well in the space. the earliest suggestion we had was to use the window as our surface in some way i.e, stain glass window and we intend to explore this possiblity further. over the next few weeks we will look into performance and real time art, also how we can use this to make an interactive piece.

Thanks for jumping first and ting DB!
ReplyDeleteFrom our initial discussions we were also keen to:
~ work in a different way to our usual practice. I certainly feel this is a liberating opportunity to explore the process of group art practice and not to be too hung up about what the final outcome looks like!
~ work in a participatory way, involving others in the space in the performance of the piece. I think you guys mentioned the term 'collaborative drawing'.
I would summarise by saying that we are looking to explore and exploit the qualities of:
~ the real time of the exhibition to produce the work
~ the real space i.e. the building itself (window), and the local internal and external environments
~ the materiality of the window itself i.e. making use of its transparency as a surface for the drawing
~ the 'audience' as participants in the performance, and even possibily members of the public, if we use the exterior of the window.

I have finaly got onto the blogI am very much looking forward to wotking as a collabartive group and i think that it will be very interesting. On the point of audience participation i am in agreement that this would be very interesting also because of the lack of control that we have as to the general public which is none!
